My Machine Learning Journey
Back then, I was just a kid who used to play a lot of games. But as I grew up, I realized that I needed a goal. So, I decided to be productive and search for something that will be beneficial for my future. And from that thought, I was interested to study about technology.
I started studying technology at junior high school in 9th grade. At that time, I learnt a lot. To begin with, I studied web development, but it wasn't a good fit for me. However, I then found a video explaining various technology fields. That was the moment I became fascinated by the field of Machine Learning.
The Summer Story
When I was in the 9th grade, I studied Machine Learning only from YouTube videos. And I still remember the channel who really helped me a lot when studying about various Machine Learning topics. He made a massive 60-hour Machine Learning course video. And honestly, at the beginning it was very fun and exciting to watch also I got a lot of knowledge. But, as time went by it's getting hard and harder. It's like my sleeping pill when I watch the video.
However, I was really brave and In the summer I convinced myself to join a Machine Learning Competition. The competition called AIRENA. I kind of forget the detail of the competition, but the format is just like a Kaggle Competition. It was a great start because I ranked at 17th out of 96 participants Hehehe.
The Reality
Oh man, I just know that machine learning involves a lot of math. It's complex math, by the way, like linear algebra, calculus and statistics. I tried to study linear algebra and understood a little, but when it came to eigenvectors and sums, it was really hard and I got burned out. And afterwards, I've been out of the machine learning scene because I have a lot of School Activity.
The Comeback
After I graduated from junior high school. In my first year of senior high school, more specifically in the middle of the year. I comeback in machine learning fields with a new spirit and goals, why? I was accepted onto the Dicoding Bootcamp AI Engineer Path. I have learnt a lot from this bootcamp, literally a lot! I now have a lot of projects and I understand various concepts such as NLP and GANs. By the way I've graduated from the bootcamp.
Moreover, I participated in AIRENA 2 again. I still remember the theme of the competition: they told us to make a model to predict continuous values (a regression task). I don't know the name, but the theme was space-related. Unfortunately, I didn't even make the top ten, which made me really sad. Oh, I forgot that I participated in AIRENA 2 before the bootcamp. So the bootcamp story comes after AIRENA 2.
So, that concludes my machine learning journey. I hope that, through sharing it, I might inspire your interest in machine learning. If you want to know more, you can contact me. I'm open to it, by the way!
